Pura Petitenget is an elegant Balinese temple located beach-side in the heart of our resort town Seminyak. It seems to go unnoticed by many tourists who pass by on their way to the beach. Few seem to take time to explore it. That’s a shame, because Pura Petitenget is one of the most important sea temples in Bali. It dates back to the 16th century. So we happily paid the 20 cents admission, and agreed to wear supplied saris to hide our legs from view.
When we visited today, we were the only foreigners showing interest. But there was no shortage of locals. Dozens were on hand preparing elaborate decorations for a major ceremony planned for later in the week. The locals will spend days preparing. It’s a shame we won’t be here to witness the event. But it was great to see such a stunning location without being hassled by souvenir hawkers or queues of tourists. Tanah Lot has nothing on this place.
