A highlight of our guided half day tour of Manila was a visit to the country’s oldest and most cherished Roman Catholic church.
Built in the 1500’s, San Agustin cathedral is located inside Manila’s medieval walled city of Intramuros. Most of this historic neighbourhood was destroyed when American forces drove out the Japanese in World War II.
Like St Paul’s in London, San Agustin somehow survived the wartime bombardment. The stone cathedral has also weathered some devilish earthquakes.
